BIO
Chris Holz is an American Artist. He grew up in Orlando, FL and graduated from Rollins College with a degree in Liberal Arts. Upon graduation he secured an internship with The Orlando Shakespeare Festival, and shortly after made his way out to Los Angeles. His first few years were spent navigating the world of Film and Television while playing guitar in the psychedelic folk adventurism band Northern Strangers. Soon he took to photography and painting. After moving to Venice Beach he spray painted his walls and plastered them with street art from about town. In 2021 he started selling his artwork on the world famous Venice Beach Boardwalk. With influences of abstraction, impressionism, street art, and his love of the 80’s, he creates intuitively and without predetermination. His work aims to question what we “see” and to reveal the beauty and chaos of life. He currently lives and works in the heart of the Queens Necklace along the coast of Venice Beach, California.
ARTIST STATEMENT
“My art strives to be like jazz, having structure in order to create a freedom of expression. The chord structure is the canvas, the paints, brushes and various tools are the instruments, but the idea is to draw from the unconscious allowing the painting to ‘emerge’ from a seemingly unknown place. The work is finished when the viewer adds intention to the creation. There’s texture, energy, and dimension - a cosmic happening. The explanation relies upon the perceiver, the one standing in front of the painting. In that respect it has no narrative and has all narratives collapsed onto itself at once. That is the painting.”
